The Honda Accord Tourer Petrol and Diesel models
The Honda Accord tourer was introduced in 2003 to take over from the previous model available in hatchback form. The honda accord tourer was powered by a choice of 2.0ltr or 2.4ltr petrol or the new 2.2 oil burner. This article details the honda accord tourer, specifications and options.

The Honda Accord Tourer is a four-door estate car manufactured by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Honda from 2003. At its introduction the new Accord was available with petrol or diesel power plants with a choice of 2.0l or 2.4l I-VTEC petrol or 2.2l CTDi Turbodiesel. Both diesel and petrol versions are available with automatic or manual gearboxes with the 2.4 petrol having a 6-speed manual to help with fuel economy.

Engines:
The diesel Honda Accord Tourer, with its CTDi badge, is available in Sport and Executive trim levels. The petrol cars are available in SE, Executive and the sporty Type-S models.

The fuel efficient common-rail turbo diesel models will give around 49mpg on combined cycle, while achieving 59mpg on long motorway runs. All this while producing an incredible 340NM torque at just 2000rpm.

The 2.0ltr petrol cars are mated to either an automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox. Expect to get around 32mpg on the combined cycle or upto 42mpg on long motorway drives. The 2.4ltr petrol has a 6-speed manual or auto gearbox and expectedly is heavier on fuel consumption than the 2.0ltr. The 2.4 Honda Accord will use around 28mpg on combined cycle or 37mpg on long motorway routes.

Safety:
The Honda Accord tourer has driver, passenger and side air bags as standard. An external temperature sensor will show you when it's getting dangerously cold outside. The Honda Accord Estate has remote central locking, airbags, electronic brake force distribution and ABS as standard across the range.

Security:
All cars get an alarm and rolling code ECU engine immobilizer, deadlocks and locking wheel nuts, lockable glove box, and externally visible VIN Number.

Space:
Unless you love the shape most people will be buying an estate car to shift gear around and in the Honda Accord Estate you can take a lot of gear with you. The rear seats have a 60:40 split, fold flat, and can comformtably fit 3 people. The tailgate is electrically operated and can open automatically using the key remote. It also has a sensor to detect if anything is in the way when closing so your vedgetables should be safe!

The Hond Accord Tourer boot capacity with the rear seats up is 626 ltrs up to the window line, drop the back seats and the storage space increases to 971 ltrs and if you really need to fill it up to the roof line then it will take a staggering 1707 ltrs. At the tailgate, the Honda Accord Tourer has an opening of 1310mm wide, and is 1818mm deep for long objects. The boot also features an additional 12v socket and under floor storage area.

Options:
If you buy a Honda Accord Tourer then you'll be pleased with the array options which come as standard on a Honda Accord Tourer. In executive spec, the Honda Accord Tourer has leather seats available in a variety of colours. Heating and cooling is controlled by a dual-zone climate control system which provides seperate temperature environments for driver and passenger. The exec models also get electrically operated heated seats for driver and passenger, which have two heat settings. Steering mounted controls include cruise control and remote control audio buttons.

A touchscreen sat nav system comes as standard on the 2.4 Exec models but can be specified as an option on the 2.0l exec and 2.2CDTi exec cars. The integrated sat nav also handles the in-car-entertainment system, radio and CD functions, temperature and air-con and other various settings. The sat nav system is quite advanced and can take you anywhere in europe. The CD player in exec spec is a 6-CD changer though there's no socket for an MP3 player until the new cars in 2008.

All cars get electric windows, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, powered tailgate, front and rear arm rests.

Other options include: reverse parking sensors, roof racks, dog bars, sports suspension and an integrated Bluetooth system.

Size:
The Honda Accord Tourer is approximately 4750mm long by 1750mm wide.

Running costs:
The diesel Honda Accord tourer is insurance group 10, 2.0ltr petrol Accord is group 11 and the 2.4ltr group 14. Tyres for the 2.0ltr are 195/65 R15 while the diesel and 2.4ltr petrol models use more exepensive 205/55 R16 or even 17in rubber. Honda cars come with a 90'000 mile/3 year warranty and service intervals at 12'500 miles. Emissions are around 153g/km for the diesel units, 196 for the 2.0ltr petrol and 237g/km for the 2.4ltr petrol models.

Alternatives:
Honda has been trying to move its cars upmarket with the Honda Accord and would like to take on the Audi A4, and dare we say - the mighty 3 series touring. Honda has produced a quality product and as usual with Honda's the Honda Accord Tourer has an excellent reliability record.
